| Animal Welfare Groups and DelCo Businesses Work Together to Help Keep Pets At Home by Organizing a Holiday Four Legged Food Drive November 17, 2011 In the past year more pets have been finding themselves homeless because their families are facing tough economic times. This holiday season Best Friends No More Homeless Pets volunteers and All Things Pawssible Animal Rescue volunteers are collaborating with local businesses and elementary schools in Delaware County to collect pet food for families in need for the second Forever Home Four Legged Food drive in Delaware County. The first food drive was held in June 2009 and over the course of 12 weeks generated 3,000 pounds of donated food for Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry. From November 26th - December 18th, volunteers will be collecting all kinds of sealed and unexpired pet food for Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry at drop' locations throughout the County: Drop Locations and Drop Hours Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry Prospect Hill Baptist Church 703 Lincoln Avenue Prospect Park, PA 19076 Drop Hours: 8:30 to noon on Tuesdays and on Thursdays from 9am to 4 pm Bark Ave Boutique 37 Coulter Ave Ardmore PA 19003 Drop Hours: Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Saturday 10-7; Wed and Friday 10-9; Sun 12-5 Coastal Carts 90 Randall Ave Suite-D Woodlyn, PA 19094 Drop Hours: Mon - Fri 8:00- 12:00 Copy Shop PLUS 147 MacDade Blvd. Folsom, PA 19033 Drop Hours: Mon -Thurs 9-5:30, Friday, 9-4 Daisy’s Delights 16 E. The Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry is a non-denominational, non-sectarian food bank that supplies food to those in need in an area roughly encompassing the Ridley and Interboro School districts in Delaware County, Pa. Its coverage area runs from Eddystone to Glenolden and from Tinicum Township to Morton/Rutledge, although it does serve clients outside of those areas who cannot get to their neighborhood pantries on the days they are open. They also work closely with county social workers and case workers, The Dept of Public Welfare and Children and Youth Services, so their clients, who are eligible, can receive an adequate supply of food. They serve all people, regardless of gender, age, race, religion, country of origin, sexual orientation, etc. and help more than 1300 families in more than 35 different communities. Why Do a Four Legged Food Drive? With or without the downturn in the economy, every community has a homeless pet problem. In the past year, however, the number of pets who become homeless via relinquishment and abandonment has increased because of current economic conditions, foreclosures and joblessness. In response, we are providing pet food to people who need it, because helping provide free pet food will help some people keep their pets. We are helping people make and honor a lifetime commitment to their pets. Millions of companion animals die every year in crowded shelters because their families decided to let them go for some reason. Through education, intervention and action, it is our hope that we can provide guidance and resources to help people care for their pets and keep them as loved members of their families.
